Who am I?

My name is Crystal and I am the maker & artist, the heart & soul, the solo gal behind Bearpaw Silver. I have always believed there is no better designer than nature & she has always inspired me in my art & my life. In 2018, I discovered my love for metalsmithing & I knew I wanted to create a business making jewelry. Since then I have poured hundreds of hours of time learning my craft, acquiring tools, & pushing myself out of my comfort zone to take on lapidary, inlay, chasing & repoussé, engraving, enameling, & casting techniques.

Why do I make?

Day & night I think of jewelry design, fabrication, & the end result. It drives my life forward & gives it meaning. I get to encompass my love for animals & nature with my love for raw materials such as metal & stones into the medium I most enjoy.

How do I make?

It all begins with an idea & a sketch. Every part of my work is handmade. There are flaws & character and I love that about handmade - I never want to automate the process or perfect it in a way where it feels manufactured by a machine. I start with sheet metal and uncut stones & forge them to become the items you see here! Each piece is completed entirely in my home studio start to finish with traditional jewelry techniques - hammer, files, saws & of course 1650ºF fire!
